Printing

Nearly every printing problem comes down to page scaling. Start here.

My printed card is slightly too small or too large

This is almost always your printer shrinking the page to fit its margins. In the print dialog, set the scale to 100% (sometimes shown as "Actual Size") and turn off anything named Fit to Page, Scale to Fit or Shrink oversized pages.

Every sheet prints a 100 mm calibration ruler. Measure it with a real ruler after printing. If it reads exactly 100 mm, your card is correct. If it reads short, your printer is still scaling.

Tip: turn on Black & white (test print) in Print & Export to check sizing on plain paper before spending cardstock or ink.

What paper should I use?
  • J-cards: 160–200 gsm matte cardstock. Heavy enough to hold a crease, thin enough to fold into the case.
  • Shell labels: full-sheet adhesive label paper, such as Avery 8165 or an equivalent full-sheet product, then cut on the printed guides.
  • Test prints: ordinary copy paper is fine for checking size and layout.

Score the fold lines with a bone folder or the back of a butter knife before folding, and fold with the printed side facing out.

Nothing happens when I tap Print

Printing from iPhone or iPad uses AirPrint, so your printer and your device must be on the same Wi-Fi network and the printer must support AirPrint.

If your printer isn't AirPrint compatible, use Prepare PDF instead and send the file to a computer, a print shop, or your printer's own app. The PDF is exact size and prints identically.

Importing music

My Spotify playlist won't import

Playlist import reads the playlist's public page, so the playlist must be set to public in Spotify. Private and collaborative-only playlists cannot be read by any outside app.

To fix it: open the playlist in Spotify, choose the "…" menu, and make it public — or copy the tracks in manually with Enter or edit tracks manually.

Make sure you pasted a full playlist link (it should look like open.spotify.com/playlist/…), not an album or artist link.

An album search returns the wrong artwork or tracks

Search results come from Apple's public music catalog, which sometimes has several editions of the same album — deluxe, remastered, regional. Try adding the artist name or the release year to your search, then pick the edition that matches your tape.

You can always replace the cover with your own photo, and edit any track title, artist or time by hand afterward.

Lyrics aren't found for a song

Lyrics come from LRCLIB, a free community-maintained library. Coverage is good for popular music but not complete, and rare or very new tracks may be missing.

When nothing is found you can paste or type lyrics yourself into the lyrics panel — they lay out and auto-fit exactly the same way.

Free trial, purchase & billing

How does the free trial work?

The trial lasts 7 days or 10 printed/exported cards, whichever comes first. Designing is unlimited and always free — paying is what unlocks printing and exporting once the trial is over.

The trial never asks for a payment method and never converts on its own. When it ends, printing simply pauses until you choose a plan.

What are the two ways to pay?

Buy it once — $2.99. A one-time purchase. Print or export up to 10 cards every calendar month, forever. Nothing renews.

Subscribe — $2.99 a month. Unlimited printing and exporting while the subscription is active. Cancel anytime; you keep access to the end of the paid month.

The two are independent — neither requires the other. On iPhone, iPad and Mac both are billed through your Apple ID. The Android version offers the same two options through Google Play.

How do I cancel?

Only the monthly subscription needs canceling — the one-time purchase never renews. Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. Cancel any time at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions, or on your device: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → J-Card Studio → Cancel.

You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Canceling never deletes your designs.

I already paid but the app says I haven't

Open Settings in the app and tap Restore Purchases. This is also what you use after reinstalling or moving to a new device.

Make sure the device is signed in with the same Apple ID that made the purchase. If it still doesn't appear, email us and include the Apple ID email you bought with — we'll sort it out.

Can I get a refund?

All purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through Apple as well. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something in the app caused the problem, tell us too — we want to fix it.

Your designs & privacy

Where are my designs stored?

Entirely on your own device. There is no account, no server and no cloud sync — we never receive your designs, artwork or anything else you create.

Because of that, deleting the app deletes its designs. Export the PDFs you want to keep before removing it, and back up your device as usual.

What data does the app collect?

None. No accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking. The only network requests the app makes are the searches you ask for — album artwork, playlist import, lyrics and liner-note trivia — and those carry no identifying information.

Full details are in the privacy policy.

Reporting a bug

Real reports get fixed. To make it fast, include as much of this as you can:

What to send us
  • What you did, and what happened instead of what you expected
  • Your device (for example iPhone 14) and iOS version
  • The app version and build — find them in Settings → About
  • A screenshot or a photo of a misprinted card, if it's a layout or printing problem
  • For import problems, the exact link or search you used

Send it to joseph@optimizedmachining.com.
